There are more than 12,000 printing companies in the UK and 30,700 in the US alone, with many, many more across the world.

The Print industry in the developing world has been improving its image over recent years and today computer-to-plate technology has replaced the vast amounts of film that were once used.

However, reports show that in the UK printers less than 0.5% of print companies have taken voluntary steps to reduce their environmental impact above the basic legal requirements imposed up on them by the UK government.

In 2000, a survey was conducted by the UK government on the number of UK firms that had adopted environmental policies. Printing companies were at the bottom of this list!
