The Printing Industry...

Water

Large quantities of water are used in most printing processes. In 1995, 92% of the global population had sufficient fresh water supplies. If we continue to consume water at our current rate, it is estimated that this figure will have fallen to only 58% by 2050.

The printing process can produce contaminated water. In the UK print companies are legally required to clean waste water before disposal – but some there are always breaches of this law. Globally standards are not as rigorous and in many countries these pollutants make their way into rivers and streams polluting the water.

At Digital Publishing International we only use water in our kettle and to water the plants in our office. The closest we get to producing dangerous or contaminated water is when we let the marketing manager make coffee!
